Event Summary & Lore

To celebrate 20 years of World of Warcraft, Blizzard reintroduced a revamped Blackrock Depths raid as an anniversary event. Originally a sprawling dungeon in classic WoW, Blackrock Depths is reimagined here as a raid instance featuring 8 bosses + several mini-bosses. Players encounter familiar faces like Lord Roccor, Bael’Gar, The Seven, General Angerforge, Ambassador Flamelash, and ultimately Emperor Dagran Thaurissan.

The lore spotlight, in collaboration with PlatinumWoW, underscores how Blackrock Depths ties into the darker machinations of the Dark Iron dwarves and their secrets—why the instance has long held mystery and menace in Azeroth’s history.

Mechanics, Loot & Limitations

• The event ran from October 22, 2024 through January 7, 2025.
• Difficulties included Normal, Heroic, and LFR.
• A core feature: Timewarped Relic Coffer Keys, which drop per boss (and mini-boss) per difficulty.
• You could collect up to 120 keys per difficulty, and gear is purchased from relic vendors (three items per difficulty cap).
• Because of this gear limitation, there was strict cap on mastery/gear acquisition via this raid. (Players could not farm endless upgrades here.)
• The raid is tuned to be challenging—even the Normal difficulty felt more aggressive than many were expecting, given that anniversary events are often meant for casual engagement.
